The Tour de France will be back in the Verbier region this summer. On Wednesday 20th July the world’s best cyclists will ride a mountain stage from Bern to the Émosson Dam near Finhaut. The race will go through Martigny in the direction of Col de la Forclaz, followed by a final climb to Finhaut/Emosson.
Tour de France 2016
After hosting the Tour de France in 2009, Verbier locals are very excited to have the Tour de France back in the region this year. The world’s leading cycling race will spend three days in Switzerland during the competition this year. On Monday 18th July there will be a stage arrival in Bern, followed by a rest day in the capital city. Our eyes though, will be focused on the tough mountain stage on Wednesday 20th July from Bern towards the Émosson Dam (Finhaut, Valais).
Where to watch the Tour de France
If you would like to visit the Tour de France in the region this year, we would recommend you to watch the stage on Wednesday 20th July on the road up to Col de la Forclaz or take the beautiful train ride from Martigny to Finhaut or Le Chatelard (the Mont Blanc Express) and walk to visit the stage. Another great viewing opportunity is the individual time trial from Sallanches to Megève Thursday 21st July or the mountain stage Megève to Morzine on Saturday 23rd July.
Four big cycling races in Valais in 2016
This year we will see four big cycling races in Valais, the Tour de Romandie in Morgins, Sion and Conthey in April, the start of the Tour de Suisse stage in Brig in June, the Swiss Championships in Martigny in June and the Tour de France arrival in Finhaut-Emosson in July.
