Roll back the years and think of when you were heading home after a hard day’s snowball fighting with your mates on a freezing cold winter’s day. You walk into the house and the immediate smell is your mum’s home cooking, a warm hearty meal that re-energises the body in readiness for the following day’s adventures…….now, without meaning to offend your mothers’ cooking, multiply that ten-fold and you will get a rough idea of the culinary delights and mouth watering treats that await you in your mountain home-from-home. Luxury ski chalets are not only about the skiing, but a great deal of love and attention goes into providing exemplary levels of service, enough boy’s toys and facilities to keep MI6 wannabees sufficiently entertained, and gourmet fine dining.
If you are a lover of the snow, what better way could there be to spend your cherished time in the mountains than having an adrenaline fuelled session on the slopes, followed by a few après-ski Jagerbombs with friends, before getting picked up by your private chauffeur, driven back to your chalet to then plunge into the hot tub and sip on some Laurent Perrier while your chef cooks up a delectable, seductive and alluring four course meal that will ensure you fall into a deep food-coma sleep, enabling you to be fully recharged and ready to hit the slopes again the following morning?! It’s a hard life sometimes isn’t it?
Ski chalets are generally rented to entire groups of friends or family that are looking for a fun filled activity holiday. They differ hugely in interior design and style, and also price. “Ski In Luxury” (www.skiinluxury.com) was launched 8 years ago with the idea of providing clients with a vast selection of “luxury” chalets that were suited to a range of budgets. For example, the multi-millionaires who regularly frequent the likes of Courchevel 1850, Zermatt and St Moritz are used to paying the huge price tickets that accompany chalets in these desirable locations. However, there are a number of resorts such as Morzine, Saas Fee and Chamonix that have some fantastic chalets on offer but at a much more pragmatic price, yet still offering great levels of luxury and service.
Ski holidays are, funnily enough, not only about skiing. There are a whole host of other activities that groups can partake in that will even further enhance your experience in the snow….Head up to a remote mountain restaurant on a skidoo, indulge in a creamy cheese fondue, and then attempt to ski, along with your newly sprouted cheese baby, back to resort with head torch and beer goggles in place! Or, try your hand at husky-sledding, snow golf, ice diving in a frozen lake, or even skiing off the side of the mountain in a tandem parapente…..there’s so much more to a ski resort than simply skiing!
“Ultimate Luxury Chalets” is a new website that was recently launched by the ski holiday agency, Ski In Luxury. It features the top 100 luxury chalets available in the European ski rental market. You do not have to be a Russian oligarch to afford this standard of property and service, although in many cases it would definitely help! During the low season weeks you could be living like a king in one of the premier luxury chalets in Europe. Below we run through a small number of luxury chalets in Verbier that are available through Ultimate Luxury Chalets….
Chalet Norte
The stunning Chalet Norte was completed in 2011 and is one of Verbier’s most outstanding properties.
980m2 and sleeping a total of 10 adults and 6 children, the property occupies an enviable position in the heights of Verbier with unparalleled views of the village below and the surrounding mountains.
The property is set out over 5 floors, linked by stairs and a lift. The expansive living room has floor to ceiling windows and an impressive open stone fireplace. The living area opens onto an extensive wrap balcony. The dining room can be closed off from the living area. A separate kitchen is located off the dining room with its own entrance. A guest toilet is also located on this floor.
The ground floor contains the Spa, wellness and cinema. The Spa and wellness consists of a large pool, hammam, sauna, outdoor Jacuzzi, 2 massage rooms, bar and wet lounge area.
A truly exceptional chalet, well appointed and with an abundance of facilities.
Chalet Trois Couronnes
The all new super chalet in Verbier, undoubtedly one of Alps most unique and desirable properties. 1300m² and sleeping a total of 14 adults and 2 children in 8 en-suite bedrooms, the property occupies an enviable position in the heights of Verbier with unparalleled views of the village below and the surrounding mountains. This masterpiece has been lovingly created by a team of highly skilled craftsmen, architects, art connoisseurs and interior designers from across Europe.
Our favourite part to the chalet is the wonderful Spa facility that is accessed from the art gallery. Taking up the entire ground floor of the middle chalet structure (Chalet B) this houses a pool, hammam, sauna and relaxation area. The view from the pool and outdoor Jacuzzi located on the terrace is breath-taking. The pool has a retractable floor and is adorned with a beautiful Italian inspired mosaic.
For those looking for the ultimate chalet indulgence, look no further!
Chalet Le Ti
Our favourite “chocolate box” chalet in the Alps. This property oozes charm and is the perfect option for a family or a couple looking for a romantic retreat.
The chalet will comfortably sleep 6 adults, with extra room for 3 children in the cosy bunk room.
The open-plan living space on the top floor comprises kitchen, dining area and lounge, providing the perfect setting to enjoy a glass of wine in front of the fire after a hard day’s skiing.
Downstairs on the bedroom level is the entertainment suite, complete with US-style pool table, flat-screen TV with Sky and DVD player and fully-stocked bar area. The large, comfy sofas are impossible to resist and a great place to enjoy post-dinner drinks.
