Can I ski with glasses?

Can I ski with glasses? Yes indeed!

It doesn’t matter whether you wear glasses or contacts, or if you use them for reading or for every day, there is a solution for you that can ensure that you still enjoy the mountains in full!

It may take a little pre-holiday thought, just to ensure that you are comfortable and can see as well as on a normal day, but it is certainly possible to ski or snowboard with glasses.

Some of our own instructors wear glasses and it’s definitely more fun to ski and snowboard whilst also being able to see where you’re going so making sure you have the right fitting eyewear is something to make sure you have organised before you depart for your holiday.

Should I buy Goggles or Sunglasses?

Many people will wear prescription sunglasses which can work quite well. If the weather is sunny and you have the prescription glasses with you, it can be an ideal solution for when your on the hill.

If the weather isn’t so good, you may prefer to ski in goggles, particularly if it’s snowy, flat light or cold weather. We as a team mostly choose to wear goggles as they are warmer than sunglasses and also have so many varying lenses.

This works well in the ever-changing environment, so if the weather changes midday, you can easily change the lense on the goggles to suit the conditions without worrying if this is prescriptive.

Some people prefer to replace their glasses with contact lenses which is another great solution. It can be a good option to get some daily throwaway lenses for this.

You may find you prefer glasses over contacts though, particularly if you suffer from getting that itchy eyed feeling that contacts can give you with the dryer air found when at Altitude.

Another option is to wear prescription goggles as an alternative but from speaking with our instructors, they find it a pain to carry a set of glasses for lunchtime to avoid wearing goggles. Prescription goggles are also hard to find.
